As artists or aspiring artists, we are all aware that there is a common thread of “unintentional” things that can transpire during the making of a piece of work. Whether it be clicking the wrong tool on a software, and realizing you can use it or even mixing what you thought might be the wrong paint, but in reality helps you create a specific hue/ shade etc. Net.art is an example of the “mistakes” or “unintentional” findings that lead to a successful outcome. Cosci was one of the first artists to entertain internet communications with artwork. Although, this was involuntary being that the email she had opened was similar to a virus of some kind, the success and creativity behind this innovation led to a drastic change in the art world.
In the mid 90s this form of art became more popular in Europe especially. Due to the political climate change, expression was on the uproar and artists took any advantage to express these problematic issues through their works. The internet was a safe haven for these artists to fully express the time and explore different mediums with the rest of the world, without having to face the struggles of neglect that their country suppressed during these political changes. As this form of media became more popular, artists grew within media and created different strengths that led to bigger achievements and recognition. As the media became more prominent through society, filmmakers and other artists began using the internet as their platforms to gain identification.
